My Tire Was Flat and I Had Nowhere to Drive It

Last month a customer called us from a parking lot off West 7th Street. She had a flat tire, a meeting in two hours, and no way to get the car to a shop. She wasn't sure if we could help. We told her to stay put and we'd come to her.

That's pretty much how most of our tire calls go.

A lot of people don't realize that getting a flat tire doesn't have to mean calling a tow truck or sitting in a waiting room for three hours. If the car is parked somewhere safe, whether that's your driveway, your apartment lot, or a parking ramp, we can come to you and handle the whole thing on the spot.

The photo above shows exactly what that looks like in real life. The car is lifted, wheel pulled off, brake rotor and caliper fully exposed. Lug nuts are set aside, torque wrench and socket set are right there on the pavement. It's not glamorous, but it gets the job done. No shop, no waiting, no hauling a car that can barely roll.

One thing people ask us about is whether a mobile tire change is as thorough as going to a shop. Honestly, the process is the same. The wheel comes off, we inspect what we're working with, and the lug nuts go back on torqued to spec. That last part matters more than most people think. Under-torqued lug nuts can work loose over time. Over-torqued ones can warp the rotor or make the next removal a nightmare. We use a torque wrench every time, not just an impact gun set to "tight enough."

St. Paul winters are hard on tires. Potholes, curbs, temperature swings that mess with tire pressure, it all adds up. We see a lot of sidewall damage and slow leaks that turned into full flats because the car sat for a few days without anyone checking it. If you've got a tire that's been looking a little low, it's worth getting eyes on it before it leaves you stranded.

If you want to see what we offer for tire work, you can check out our tire change service page for the details. And if you're already dealing with a flat right now, just give us a call. We'll figure out if we can get to you same day.

No tow truck required.
